Six local Scouts from Boy Scout Troop 134 achieved the prestigious rank of Eagle Scout Nov. 16. The six are from Floral Park, Stewart Manor, and Garden City. The Court of Honor was held at St. Anne’s Church. The new Eagles are Keith DeStaebler, Joseph Lucatorto III, Seamus Breslin, Steven Giammona, Andrew Powers, and William Powers.

In addition to the officials pictured, also on hand to honor the scouts for this major accomplishment were Stewart Manor Mayor Michael Onorato, Nassau County Legislator Laura Schaefer, St. Anne’s pastor Msgr. Thomas Harold, as well as officials from the Boy Scouts of America and the Knights of Columbus.

Only 2 percent of boys who join Scouts achieve the rank of Eagle. It marks outstanding citizenship, character development, and personal fitness. A key requirement is the Eagle Scout project. Andrew Powers, William Powers, and Joseph Lucatorto, all of Floral Park, completed separate projects that improved Centennial Gardens. Steven Giammona of Stewart Manor created a 9/11 Memorial on Covert Avenue between Stewart Manor and Floral Park. Keith DeStaebler of Stewart Manor and Seamus Breslin of Garden City both did projects that improved St. Anne’s School in Garden City.

Congratulations to Troop 134 Scoutmaster Michael McGoldrick as well as the parents and mentors who helped these fine young men achieve this honor.
