Each year, the East Williston Education Foundation honors one staff member from each of the three schools (North Side, Willets Road and The Wheatley School) with The Steve Simmons Family Award.
The award is intended for any person within the school community who has given at least five years of District service going beyond his/her responsibilities making a measurable difference in the lives of their students.
The evening when they announce the Simmons Award winners is one of the most special times of the year for the East Williston School District community when so many come together to celebrate the caring excellence of the staff they honor that evening.
For the 19-20 school year, the East Williston Educational Foundation held off on announcing the winners, due to the pandemic, hoping that those winners could be celebrated jointly at this year’s Simmons Coffee House. Since, unfortunately, health and safety rules still prevent gatherings, the Foundation is taking this opportunity to announce the 2019-20 winners.
Congratulations to the 2019-20 winners North Side Physical Education teacher and East Williston Teachers’ Association president, Meryl Fordin, Willets Road teaching assistant Jerry Pokrywka, and Wheatley music teacher Angela Luftig who retired in June 2020!
